TIM AND TAMMY NEWSLETTER #27 – 15 Minutes of English a Day 10/10/08
If you had only 15 a day to work on your English, what would you do? Do you have a goal? More importantly, do you have a plan? Read some suggestions and tell us about your plan below.
15 Minutes of English a Day
* What you envision = a dream * What you plan = a goal * What you schedule = a project * What you do = reality
@>---- schedule = programar
"Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you're ready or not, to put this plan into action." - Napoleon Hill
@>---- carry out* = executar (* phrasal verb that begins with the letter C)
@>---- desire = desejo @>---- at once = imediatamente @>---- whether you're ready or not = se você estiver preparado ou não @>---- put into action = colocar em ação
Most students don't have a plan for learning English. Believe me! I know what I am talking about! I have been teaching English for more than 17 years now!
@>---- I know what I am talking about = Sei do que estou falando
THINK: If you only had 15 minutes to work on improving your English every day, what would you do? (Please tell us about it below.)
@>---- work on = trabalhar em, dedicar-se a
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Listen to and repeat the dialogues in your English course book.
2. Look over your lesson and notes from last class.
@>---- look over = dar uma "passada" em
3. Go over the English lesson for your next class.
@>---- go over* = revisar (* phrasal verb that begins with the letter G)
4. Read a good ESL blog. Here are some suggestions:
5. Listen to a podcast (audio blog) in English. There are some listening activities in the "Tim and Tammy Talk" section of our site. (see top left)
6. Read a short article. Write all the new words and expressions in your notebook.
7. Copy out a piece of writing in English every day. Many famous writers have improved their writing this way. Look what I read about the famous American writer Jack London:
"...His first book...was published in 1900. Within four years he became the most popular writer in America.
"It was no accident. London learned his craft methodically, analyzing the stories he liked and copying them out by hand to study how they were put together. From the start of his career he forced himself to produce at least 1,000 words a day - a quota he met every day of his life."
@>---- copy out* = copiar, passar a limpo, transcrever (* phrasal verb that begins with the letter C)
So, what's your plan? What do you do each day to take your English to the next level? Please tell me about it below.

Hello guys, that´s totally true. Most students don´t have a plan for learning english; and worse than that, a lot of then don´t even bother to buy a dictionary. I try to do at least one activity every day to learn english; Sometimes a listen to a podcast on a subject of my interest, sometimes I read and journalistic article from The New York Times, next day I open my Oxford dictionary and take a look some phrasal verbs, sometimes I listen to a Tim and Tammy episode etc. No matter what you do, you have to study english every single day, at least 15 minutes a day. Do that regularly and you´ll surely take your english to the next level in no time!
