Hi, this is Tim. I just got done watching a very exciting game, United States against Slovenia. But I'm a little bit disappointed because the referee disallowed a legitimate goal scored by the United States. I was just reading a blog here and it says that Altidore chases after the referee to try to complain after the goal was disallowed. He's restrained by his team mate, and thank goodness, as the young lad was a little fired up. I got a little fired up myself. So now I have to cheer for England to win this afternoon. And it seems like the United States is still in the World Cup. Let's see what happens. Bye, bye.

Ok, I was reading here on ESPN-soccer-net that "Ernesto Garrido reports as Brazil recovered some of their flair against Ivory Coast at Soccer City." Good to hear that; isn't it? Then it says here: "On Sunday night the soccer city stadium in Johannesburg witnessed Brazil's remarkable step forward in their quest to conquering a sixth World Cup title. After their 3-1 victory over Ivory Coast, Dunga's team guaranteed their spot in the second round and will very likely play against Portugal for the first place of the group in their third match of the World Cup this coming Friday."

USA Staged a Furious Comeback

Team USA staged a furious comeback getting a 2-2 tie against Slovenia Friday that keeps the Americans chances alive of advancing in the World Cup. Slovenia, the smallest of the 32 nations in the tournament, took a 2-0 lead in the first half, their first goal coming when forward Valter Birsa caught US keeper, Tim Howard, flat-footed to score in the 13th minute. Slovenia's second goal came on a counter attack from Zlatan Ljubijankic at 42 minutes in. At half time, US coach, Bob Bradley, switched to a more attack oriented line up, subbing in two mid-fielders, Benny Feilhaber and Maurice Edu. Quickly into the second half, US mid-field star, Landon Donovan, scored a goal on the Slovenian goal keeper's near post. At 82 minutes the coach's son, Michael Bradley, scored the equalizer when forward Jozy Altidore's header fell in the middle of the penalty box. Barreling at full speed Bradley tapped it over the Slovenian keeper's head. Second half sub Maurice Edu appeared to put team USA ahead four minutes later, poking in a close-ranged shot after Altidore sent a header to him. But the ref disallowed it, apparently for a foul before Edu caught the ball.

A last minute goal sent the US soccer team into the second round of the 2010 World Cup. The Americans were within minutes of elimination, but they beat Algeria 1-0. With the win, the US also won their World Cup group for the first time since 1930. England also advanced from group C, winning their own 1-0 match over Slovenia. The American hero was Landon Donavan, the soft-spoken skilled mid-fielder shot one pass through nearly impenetrable Algerian goalkeeper, Rais M'Bolhi. The goal caused euphoria amongst the American players on the bench and, most of all, the fans.

Up until the last minute heroics, countless attacks by the American players were fended off by Algeria. In one case an American goal was whistled offsides. TV replays appeared to show mid-fielder Clint Dempsey to be onside when he tapped one into the net from close range, after Hercules Gomez shunted a pass through to him in the 21st minute. And later the woodwork denied Dempsey. His shot in the 57th minute hit the post and he missed the re-bounce. The game ended with American cinematic flair after being scoreless for so long. Brazil vs. Ivory Coast - Analysis

Eric Wynalda at yahoo sports. Well, let's just call it for what it was: This was the good, the bad, and the ugly of what this World Cup has been all about. We got to see a pretty good team today, and Brazil, they get the victory 3 to 1 against the Ivory Coast in this much anticipated game. Here's the thing, you know, it's not "jogo bonito" anymore; and that's all the criticism that Dunga's going to get because this team doesn't play a beautiful style of football, but what they do do is they play effective soccer; and when they are on, they are good.

A lot of people worried about Kaka – we'll get to him in a second. I'm not worried about his "play" at all. He was fantastic today, two great little passes, and they get some goals out of him. Fabiano finds the net twice today, and also gets a double hand ball on the second goal. The hardest part for me [while] watching this game was the referee's conversation with Fabiano on the run back. Now they basically say: "It hit the chest right?" "No, of course it didn't hit me in the hand, of course!" It was the perfect illustration of a liar. Great goal, great goal! But still he cheated to get that one. They do get a goal, another goal, from Elano, and he exits the game shortly thereafter (Maybe like in the first game they should have substituted him right after the goal.)…which could be a very serious injury.

…And after that injury to Elano, this game got ugly. There was just… there was nothing good about it. Brazil was basically starting to get drawn into that part where they're not showing off anymore, but now they start to taunt their opponent, and it wasn't a good idea. This game started, and there was a couple of fights; and then the worst thing that I've seen in the World Cup thus far, Kader Keïta basically decides that he's going to take a dive running into Kaka. Kaka gets his second yellow and a red card and is thrown out. He will miss the next game. Fortunately for Brazil, they already have the points. But go back and watch this one. This one is the ugly of soccer. To get hit in the chest and essentially pretend like you've been hit in the face, nothing more embarrassing than that. I hope the guy goes back and watches it and realizes how stupid he looked. Brazil is going to march on. They're looking very good, but they're going to be without Elano and Kaka, they're going to have to throw some subs out there; but they already got the points. Brazil is looking like Brazil.
